What is a Line! (Final Evaluation)

This is a remake of my previous Final evaluation (the other version would not register the last few questions)

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have learnt many new skills throughout the project.  I have learnt to experiment with different media and also different size of resolution, big and small.

What approaches to methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

My method of approach to research has changed dramatically, from what I used to do which is dive straight into the direction of a final resolution, now I start by looking into the meaning of the brief (in this case - a line) and as my work develops I constantly look through magazines, and on the internet for work which relates to mine, and there I try and find a new and original approach to my work.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalize on these?

I have found that my strengths have come through at the end of this project.  I have realized that i can work well on a broad and larger scale.  I use design sheets instead of a workbook which I always used to do.  Towards my final resolution I have found my work is going more towards structure and architecture.  My final resolutions have always been successful but not always exactly what I wanted or was pleased with, however on this project, my final resolution (on the window) came as a massive success with great feedback from viewers

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I have found that I was identifying my weaknesses as I went on with this project.  initially I had a problem with time management after my holiday over christmas.  However after failing a module and getting the determination not to do so again, I got motivated and started applying a lot of effort into my work.  One of my weaknesses is when I have an idea, I explore it, but then get bored of it and move on, this I am learning from, and I have learnt to exhaust the idea and any possible resolutions before moving on (unless I'm polishing a turd)

Identify 5 things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Time management - even though I feel I have already addressed this, it is still a key issue which constantly needs working on.
2. When an idea is generated, explore it fully - this could help me work towards a final resolution or even point me in a better direction.
3. Not hold myself back - I tend to restrict myself and I do not know why, if I stop doing this I could easily produce more work.
4. Get a brief and get on with it - saving time, stress and gaining valuable marks.
5. Always ask a tutors support - even 5 minutes one on one can help my work go in a much better direction.

How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(5 - Excellent, 4 - Very good, 3 - Good, 2 - Average, 1 - Poor)

Attendance = 5
Punctuality = 5
Motivation = 3
Commitment = 3
Quality of work = 4
Quantity of work = 3
Contribution to group = 4

All in all I have very much enjoyed this project in the later stages.  I found that my motivation was very high in the last month and my commitment and quality of work was high.  The grades I gave myself above was what I thought would be my average over the whole brief.  If i had worked from the start like i did in the last month, it would have been all 5's.  Thank you

What is a Line No21!

Ok ... so here is another one of my imaged of my final resolution which I have literally got bored and played around with on photoshop, a 2 minute wonder you may say haha!

Well, I better go on with something anywhoo!  Love as always x

What is a Line No20!

Phwoooar ... so after arriving at uni, having a small talk with our course tutor about what we need for tomorrows final hand-in I set off to the shop for carpet tape (adhesive).  Now, im a reasonably patient person, but after visiting 7 shops which either stocked the tape, but not in black?? or they just didn't stock it ... now ... were talking D.I.Y shops here, and they dont stock black tape, what is this world coming too?  Anywhoo, Wilkinson's became my savour when they stocked huge piles of it, 3 rolls later, here we are with the finished resolution, I took several photographs of it, and here are some of the best ... enjoy!

Cool, well ... im so pleased with how this came out, as a final resolution I think its a really strong piece.  I would really change much except only use the image inside the white paper if I did it again, I feel the white paper (even though nice) is not really needed in this piece!

Hmmm .. loves loves loves x

What is a Line No19!

Ok ... so heading in the same direction at the moment making a image out of the lines which already exist, however now im doing it on a much larger scale ... as in a window in uni which is around 5ft in length by 8ft in height ... hard to explain, but im taking, an image i originally took (of a stair case) drawing around the image (on an A2 scale) and then taking this to the window for the broadest image you will see ... well enjoy these stage by stage images!

So ... thats it for now, only had half a day to develop the idea (including going to the shop for tape ... which I ran out of today so i have to get more tomorrow) but yeh, im pleased with how its coming out at the minute, im planning on using a whiteboard marker tomorrow to apply the thinner lines which I cannot use the tape for.

Well ... bed time, loves x

What is a Line No18!

Ok ... so im not going to lie, even though the last idea which I was developing was working well, it was very time consuming!  So ... I changed my idea 1 week before the brief deadline : ) haha!  Anywhoo, still the same sort of concept where I am making and image from another, however this time, I am purely just using the lines in the image to make mine ... confused, look at these ...

Mmmm ... sexy, well even if I do say so myself ... they are good!  Plus these are my own stock images which I took (not off the internet)  Oh yehhhh!

Sweet ... love love love x

What is a Line No18!

Ok ... so here is a series of the image which I have been working on lately for this brief ... hope you enjoy! Future plans include making a story board and as series of images which could work as a sequence to inform the viewer of an event etc ... enjoy!

Sooo ... yeh just a few examples of what has been going on in the last couple of days! My favorite is defo the top piece in just black and white, looks pretty awesome I think!
Anywhoo as I said above, future plans include different colour, layout and imagery ... I also plan on printing a lot of these out on a large scale!

What is a Line No17!

Ok ... dont mean to blow my own trumpet but ... SH*T me im well impressed with this piece! After finally finishing it, I could help but stare at it for a good 10 mintes ... anywhoo hope you like it, and if not ... well I dont care!

Hmmm ... lovely, ok so future plans:
  • Play with different types
  • Different colours
  • More experiments with type size
  • Different images
Love as always x

What is a Line No16!

Hello and welcome once again, hasn't it been a lovely day ... mine has been great also thanks for asking! Anywhoo back to work now, and I have developed my idea of making an image out of text ... I decided to use one of my images of Sydney harbour bridge (Australia) from when I went traveling to play around with ... and this is what I have done so far ... enjoy!

Hmm ... weird hay?  Well I kinda like it to be honest!  I think its a lot different to what other people are doing with this brief and is visually interesting up close and from a distance.  Future plans ... play with colour and more of a play around with font size and possibly different type?

Love ya muchly x

What is a Line No15!

Ok ... so another thing that was mentioned in crit today was the amount of work which I had not produced, and the experimentation I had also not done! So I thought I would do a load of experimentation and research as this brief does not have to have a final resolution ... which is strange, but good! haha!
So another idea which I had was to produce drawings/images through sentences ... 'What is a line - a sentence!' So here is an example of a very quick draft I did (and when I say quick I literally mean 5 mintues)

Again ... it was a very quick draft, just to show you what I plan on doing ... but by doing this I have developed a new way and style in which I plan to do the finished resolutions!

Keep with it people ... love you all x

What is a Line No14!

So ... once again its been developed! Because i like the look of the map when it is photographed, i decided i wanted to carry on using my imagery this way and somehow make my route (lines) looks more vintage themselves ... so here is what i did ... enjoy!

Hmmm ...

Love as per usual! x

What is a Line No13!

So ... going on the same idea as my previous blog, I thought it maybe better to use a more detailed, classic map, instead of a googlemaps download! haha!
Anywhoo ... had another play around with it and this is what I came up with ... enjoy!

Ok, so same principle applies to what I have done here!  I have used a proper map (instead of google-maps shitty download) and done the same sort of thing with acetate ... this time I decided to do a series of routes which join together to show where abouts in Leeds I actually adventure to!
So yeh I do like how the acetate piece looks on the actual map, and im still unsure on what I think of it on its own, I dont think it has the same old/vintage style which is what im after.

Love you x

What is a Line No12!

Alright ... so after my little bit of playing around, I decided to look into routes I take on a map ... this was a bit of fun, but still not keeping me interested in the project ... have a look anyway!

Pretty simple idea to be honest ... drawing over the lines of the original map using assitate im pretty sure has been done before, better idea than i originally had however, I do plan on opening this up even more!

What is a Line No11!

So heres whats happening ... had a crit today, and it wasn't very good, I realised I had been "polishing a turd" for the past few weeks and wasting time on a project which is quickly drawing to a close! So I decided to start fresh, clean slate which I could just attack this project a few hours each night! So what am I doing my line project on now ... 'What is a line - Its my daily routine!'

Random lines drawn with different stroke and coloured pens, just a mess around really to show different lines!
Dont worry ... more shall be posted soon, promise!

What is a Line No10! (Bottle Video)

Ok ... so here it people, the final video with music is finally here ... I hope you enjoy, if not ... well I dont care! Love x

What is a Line No9!

Now this ... well I was lost for words, Im currently trying to learn how to draw ... well how to draw better, anyway ... just came across this video on youtube and it blew my mind!  I feel it relates to my area of 'What is a Line' due to the stop frame animation and the simple but detailed line drawings.

Awesome ... love as always! x

What is a Line No8!

Browsing through youtube (once again) and came across yet another genius advert by Audi.  This time not using lines which float in the air, they are using lines as a drawing to make a car ... it truly is awesome!  You really cant help but smile and laugh!

See what i mean ... Love you x

What is a Line No7! (Bottle Video)

Ok ... so now the video is finally loaded I thought I would add several of the images I used in its production and do a small evaluation on what I have learnt and what I will do differently next time I do a stop frame animation.

So there are 3 main images that I thought you would like to see ... altogether the video of 24 seconds used 160 images ... which means the average frame time was 0.40 seconds.

Mini Evaluation

Ok ... so when I originally came up with this idea I wasn't certain on how well I could produce it and edit it on photoshop.  this was the first video that I had edited on my own, so I knew immediately that it would be a tricky task.  I have learnt a lot from doing this video, I have never really done stop frame animation but if I was to change anything now it would be the fact that I would not use bottles in my video ... this is because it comes across far to student like and not really professional compared to what other videos that are out there.  Another thing I would change / take more notice of ... is myself appearing in some of the frames ( this only really happens on the late part of the film ... but its still annoying)
All in all however I am pleased with the final resolution.  yes I feel I can improve in certain areas as I stated, however I do feel for my first attempt at this, it was a good effort ... keep your eyes out for more WetPaint animations.

Have you been working out ... Love you x

What is a Line No6! (Bottle Video)

Ok ... so here it is (without music ... sorry) but I have finally managed to load all my images onto Final Cut Pro and edit the video together ... if you have your ipod handy and like the kooks, the 'Sofa Song' goes really well with the video ... I will see if I can add music to it later and add it on a later date!

Love ya and leave ya x

What is a Line (Statement of intent)

So ... what is a line? Well here is my statement of intent on what I intend to investigate in this brief.  The subtitle that i chose to explore is " A connected series of events, actions or developments " ... let me explain why.
So what I intend to do is investigate the series of 'actions' area in depth and touch briefly on the other areas (events and developments) and see what I get from my research! I also plan on using a lot of digital imagery which I will use with different software and media, EG: Sequence photography (photoshop) or stop frame animation (final cut pro, imovie, photoshop etc) ! I have already begun exploring the connected series of actions with beer bottles coming out of the wall and making their way down my corridor into a lift. I did this to test myself with stop motion because I have not produced a video before but already I have found this is an area I wish to explore further. The sequence photography is another area I wish to explore ... even if the pieces are separated and not grouped together they could still make a story and work well!
Anywhoo ... I better go now, I have a critical studies tutor to be listening too!

Love you as always x

What is a Line No5!

Soooo ... had a small crit today on our ' What is a Line ' brief! Went well to be honest, I know im going to be focusing on making a video using stop frame animation! The only thing I was told was not too get to distracted and taken away from the title of what is a line?! So I had another look on youtube for video's using lines ... and heres what I found! Enjoy ...

All my love x
